There are 4 chips in the PowerPC family of chips planned so far. They are the 601,603,604 and the 620.
The 601 is the first chip naturally and it will run at a variety of speeds to start with. Initially, Apple will have it run at 50 and 66mhz but later 80mhz versions and higher will be used. The PowerPC 601 chip running at 66mhz will give about 60 Spec92Marks and 80 SpecMarks FP which are the floating point calculations.
The PowerPC 603 is a low power 3.3 volt processor which will have similar performance to the PowerPC 601. It will be used in laptop computers and will be due out sometime next year.
While little is known about the PowerPC604 and 620, they are supposed to have incredible floating point performance. They will be very useful for computer graphics such as rendering as well as scientific computations.
